Nepal’s Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has an exciting idea to help the country grow! He wants to turn Nepal’s big rivers—Koshi, Gandaki, and Karnali—into paths for boats and ships. This water transport plan could let Nepal send goods to the sea, making trade easier and cheaper.
“If we can run trains in Janakpur, we can also make ships sail from our rivers to the sea,” PM Oli said. He believes Nepal can build its own ships and use them to carry things like food, clothes, and other goods to other countries. Right now, Nepal is a landlocked country, which means it’s surrounded by land and doesn’t have its own way to the ocean. This makes trading with other countries harder and more expensive.
By using Koshi, Gandaki, and Karnali rivers, Nepal could send goods faster and save money. The water transport system would work like roads but on water! Boats could carry heavy loads, like trucks do on land. This could help farmers, shopkeepers, and businesses sell their products far away.
PM Oli’s plan is bold because rivers need to be deep and wide enough for big boats. The government will study the rivers to make sure they can be used safely. They might need to clean the rivers or make them deeper in some places. This will take time, but PM Oli is hopeful.
