Gaza is in a terrible food crisis that’s getting worse every day. Experts from around the world say parts of Gaza are very close to a famine, which means many people don’t have enough food to survive. The Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC), a group that studies hunger, says Gaza has already passed two big warning signs for famine: not enough food and many people, especially children, being very sick from not eating enough (acute malnutrition).
Right now, there’s a huge shortage of food, water, and other important things like medicine in Gaza. This food scarcity makes it hard for families to eat every day. Many people are going without food for days, and some are so hungry they’re getting very sick. Sadly, dozens of people, including young children, have died in recent weeks because they didn’t have enough to eat.
The IPC report says the whole population of Gaza—about 2.1 million people—is facing serious hunger problems. Around 470,000 people are in the worst stage, called “Catastrophe” (IPC Phase 5), where they have almost no food at all. Another 1 million people are in “Emergency” (IPC Phase 4), which is also very dangerous. The report warns that if things don’t change, even more people could face starvation by September 2025.
The food crisis is happening because of fighting in Gaza, which has made it hard for food and supplies to get in. Many roads are closed, and aid trucks can’t reach people who need help. This has caused food prices to go way up, so even if food is available, most people can’t afford it. Hospitals are seeing more and more children who are sick because they’re not getting enough food.
Experts say the only way to stop this famine is to let more food, water, and medicine into Gaza right away. They also want the fighting to stop so aid can reach everyone safely. If things don’t change soon, many more people, especially kids, could get sick or die from hunger. Gaza needs help now to fight this food crisis
