According to Gagan Thapa, these intermediaries have taken control of major decisions in the country and even have access to the top leaders’ bedrooms. He believes their hidden power is a key reason behind Nepal’s ongoing economic troubles.
Thapa also shared how things have changed over time. “In the past, there was excitement about who might be appointed Governor of Nepal Rastra Bank. But today, the talk is all about which candidate has the backing of which middleman,” he said, pointing to how deep the influence has grown.
Gagan Thapa made it clear that he has entered this “pond full of dirt” not to become a part of it, but to clean it. “From the outside, it may seem like we are part of the mess. But our goal is to fix it,” he emphasized.
As a key figure in the current government that includes the Nepali Congress, Thapa expressed his strong desire to help improve the government’s performance and restore public trust.
His bold words have sparked discussion across the country, highlighting the urgent need to reduce the grip of middlemen and bring real reform in Nepal’s political and economic systems.
