Kathmandu, July 22, 2025 – A forensic laboratory has confirmed that an audio recording revealing a bribery deal is real. The recording involves former Federal Affairs Minister Rajkumar Gupta, middleman Sujan Lama, and former Land Management Minister Ranjita Shrestha. They discussed a deal about 134 ropanis of land in Batulechaur, Pokhara. The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) is now investigating this serious corruption case.
The audio recording shocked many when it surfaced. It allegedly captures Gupta, Lama, and Shrestha talking about a bribery deal to control a land transfer in Pokhara. The deal was worth millions, with Gupta reportedly asking for Rs 7.8 million to stop a land officer’s transfer and secure a political post. Lama acted as a middleman, while Shrestha was involved in the land registration process. The forensic lab confirmed the voices in the audio recording are genuine, proving it was not fake.
The CIAA has called Rajkumar Gupta and Sujan Lama to their office for statements and voice checks. Even though the forensic lab verified the audio recording, the CIAA is doing more tests to be sure. Ranjita Shrestha, now chair of the Nagarik Unmukti Party, has not commented on the issue. Gupta resigned as minister after the audio recording was released, but he denies the voice is his.
