Arrest Warrant Issued for Journalist Dilbhusan Pathak

An arrest warrant has been issued for Nepali journalist Dilbhusan Pathak. He is in trouble after he posted a video on his YouTube channel.

Three weeks ago, Pathak made a video where he said that Congress Party leader Sher Bahadur Deuba, his wife Arzu Rana Deuba (Foreign Minister), and their son Jaiveer Deuba put money into the Hilton Hotel project in Nepal.

In the video, he also said the Deuba family was doing real estate business using money from other countries. This video got a lot of attention and was watched by many people.

But soon after the video was posted, the company behind the Hilton Hotel in Nepal — Shankar Group — said the story was not true.

On Baisakh 21 (May 3, 2025), Shankar Group released a press notice saying:

• The claims in the video were false

• The video had wrong information

• It hurt the company’s name

• They would take legal action against the video maker

 After this, Shankar Group went to the Cyber Bureau, which is the part of Nepal Police that looks at online and internet problems. The Cyber Bureau checked the complaint. They then asked the Kathmandu District Court to take action. The court agreed and gave an arrest warrant for Dilbhusan Pathak. This means the police now have permission to find and arrest Pathak. The police say he may have broken Nepal’s cybercrime laws by:

• Sharing fake news

• Damaging reputations

• Making people believe something that is not true

 Right now, Pathak has not said anything in public about the arrest warrant. The Deuba family also has not spoken directly, but people close to them say the video was fake and political. This case is very important because it shows how dangerous it can be to share wrong information online. Even famous people like journalists can get into big trouble if they post untrue stories on YouTube or other social media. The police are still working on the case. If Pathak is found guilty, he could face punishment from the court. This is a strong message for everyone:
